Finding out that little tidbit of information is a bit disturbing. So now what? Wouldn’t it be nice if we could walk around with a hidden, portable lie detector? Believe it or not we all have the potential to weed through the liars in our lives. We just have to learn how to use our internal lie detectors. I’ve done a little research and created a list of things to look for. Keep in mind that some people are natural born liars and no matter how hard we look we won’t be able to tell. These type of people are mentally ill and we cannot judge ourselves for being fooled by them. It is human nature to lie at some point so remember not to be to hard on those who tell little white lies!
1. A change in the voice's pitch.
2. A change in the rate of speech.
3. A sudden increase in the number of "uhms" and "ahs."
4.A change in eye contact. Normally, one makes eye contact one-quarter to one-half of the time. If suddenly, at the convenient moment to lie, he's staring at you or looking away, beware.
5.Turning his body away from you, even if just slightly.
6. Suddenly being able to see the white on the top and bottom of a person's eyes, not just the sides.
7. A hand reaching, even if momentarily, to cover part of the face, especially the mouth. Nervous movement of feet or legs.
It doesn’t matter how many of these things are detected, nothing is ever foolproof. Be careful before calling someone out and make sure you are correct in a situation. You don’t want to burn unnecessary bridges.
